4 dead due to Luis, Maymay, Habagat; OCD reports damage

Four people have been reported dead due to the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis, Maymay and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Friday. In its report issued as of 6 a.m. on Friday, the OCD said two fatalities were reported in Benguet due to a landslide, while two others died in a rockslide in Rodriguez, Rizal. One person was injured in Benguet due to a landslide. No missing persons were reported. The combined effects of the weather disturbances have affected a total of 132,956 individuals or 39,879 families in the following regions: Of the affected population, 6,215 individuals or 2,021 families were staying in 61 evacuation centers. A total of 14 houses were damaged, 13 partially and one totally. Meanwhile, the OCD said the government has so far provided P3,595,057 worth of assistance to affected communities. Maymay Maymay has weakened into a low pressure area on Friday and is still being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to PAGASA. PAGASA continues to monitor Typhoon Dolphin, which is outside PAR. Rains will persist in parts of the country, particularly Central and Southern Luzon and the western section of Visayas due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat. The Southwest Monsoon will bring rains to Occidental Mindoro, prompting PAGASA to warn residents of possible flash floods or landslides, especially during intense downpours. Metro Manila, Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, and Antique will have occasional rains also brought about by the Southwest Monsoon. Batanes and Babuyan Islands will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of Dolphin. The rest of Luzon and Western Visayas will be cloudy with scattered rains and thunderstorms as a result of the Southwest Monsoon. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. —VAL, GMA News
