Vietnam Lights 7,900 Candles to Honor Fallen Heroes, Support Families

On the evening of July 26th, at the Vietnam-Laos Martyrs' Cemetery in Nghệ An Province, a solemn ceremony was held to commemorate national heroes with the lighting of 7,900 candles. The event was jointly organized by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nghệ An Province, and the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association, marking the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27th). Attendees, including representatives from various sectors, numerous youth union members, and local residents, offered incense, flowers, and observed a moment of silence for the fallen. Participants then lit candles on each martyr's grave, expressing their gratitude. Furthermore, the organizing committee presented 79 gifts to wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and families of those who rendered service to the nation. The youth group 'Skyline' also provided a digital service for 100 portraits of martyrs. This commemoration serves as a significant tradition in Vietnamese society, reminding people of the immense sacrifices made for national independence and unification, and demonstrating respect for the heroes who contributed to nation-building, as well as support for their families. Such events, often symbolic of national development and unity under the one-party system, also play a role in fostering patriotism and strengthening social cohesion.
