The central province of Khanh Hoa is intensifying efforts to collect DNA samples from relatives of unidentified fallen soldiers, a critical step in accelerating the identification of remains recovered during recent search campaigns. This program is highlighted as a profoundly significant political communication event, reflecting the care and responsibility of the Party, State, military, and society towards the search, recovery, and identification of fallen soldiers' remains. During the 2025–2026 dry-season search campaign, 81 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts' remains were recovered, all yet to be identified. The DNA sample collection is thus an essential process for their identification. The initiative has gained significant momentum following the launch of the nationwide 500-day campaign to accelerate the search for, recovery, and identification of martyrs’ remains. This also expresses the deep gratitude of today's generation to the martyrs who sacrificed their youth for national independence, freedom, and peace and happiness. In Vietnam's one-party system, commemorating and honoring soldiers and revolutionaries who sacrificed for the nation plays a crucial role in fostering national unity and patriotism. In regions still bearing the scars of war, such activities serve as opportunities to remember past sacrifices and reaffirm the value of peace. While Vietnam continues its economic growth, it navigates complex challenges in its relationship with China, including territorial disputes and economic dependencies. In this context, the state's emphasis on honoring past heroic sacrifices can be understood as a means to strengthen domestic cohesion and boost national morale.
