Chinese Firm Explores Cashew Investment as Cambodia Pushes High-Tech Processing
A Chinese state-owned firm is exploring investment in Cambodia's cashew industry. Cambodia aims to boost domestic processing and add value to its agricultural products, offering investment incentives.
PHNOM PENH, July 29, 2026 (KPT) — Chinese state‑owned Huangshan High‑Tech Investment Group is weighing investment in Cambodia’s cashew industry after talks with senior officials, as Cambodia seeks to scale up domestic processing and capture greater value from one of its most promising crops. Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board at the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), met chairman Wang Shaoyang and his delegation to discuss opportunities in cashew processing and other agro‑industrial sectors. Vuthy urged the group to move quickly on an investment decision, saying modern technologies could help Cambodia generate more value domestically and strengthen the sector’s contribution to the economy. As part of the push, the government has set up a 400‑hectare cashew industrial park in Kampong Thom province. The CDC said cashew agro‑industry projects qualify for fiscal and non‑fiscal incentives under the Investment Law, along with special benefits to encourage investment. Huangshan High‑Tech expressed optimism after receiving details on opportunities and Cambodia’s investment environment. The group has interests spanning agriculture, industry, automobiles, smart equipment, finance, solar and low‑carbon systems. Vuthy also encouraged the company to explore cassava, rubber and plantation‑based timber industries. Officials said the talks reflect Cambodia’s wider effort to move up agricultural value chains by attracting technology and capital into domestic processing, reducing reliance on raw exports and creating higher‑value production at home.
