Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam Advance Joint 'Indochina Three Countries, One Destination' Tourism Initiative
Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam have discussed the introduction of a joint tourism package and action plan to boost the appeal of the Indochina region. Progress on the 'Three Countries, One Destination' initiative, aimed at promoting intra-regional travel and attracting international visitors, was confirmed at an ASEAN National Tourism Organizations meeting.
Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam have discussed the potential introduction of a joint tourism package and shared action plan aimed at enhancing the appeal of the former Indochina region and encouraging more travel among citizens of the three countries, as well as international visitors. The discussion took place during the 64th ASEAN National Tourism Organizations (NTO) Meeting and related meetings held in Singapore on July 9. Senior tourism officials from each nation attended, including Chuk Chumno, Director-General of Tourism Development and International Cooperation for Cambodia; Phonemaly Inthaphome, Director-General of Tourism Development at the Lao Ministry of Culture and Tourism; and Thi Hoa Nguyen, Vice Chairperson of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT). The meeting reviewed progress and discussed priority plans to advance the "Three Countries, One Destination" initiative. Officials considered launching a Joint Package Tour, comprising three days in each country, designed to incorporate key tourist attractions. This package aims to stimulate travel both among residents of the three nations (intra-regional travelers) and international visitors from third-country markets. A joint action plan based on practical and achievable measures was also endorsed. This includes the production of promotional videos and the staging of joint cultural and sporting events. The countries also agreed to strengthen private sector cooperation through networking, matching meetings, familiarization (FAM) trips, and by facilitating easier cross-border travel. Officials pledged to meet to identify "low-hanging fruits"—initiatives that can be implemented quickly, efficiently, and deliver immediate results—in support of the joint action plan. According to Cambodia's Ministry of Tourism, the Kingdom welcomed 1.54 million international tourists in the first five months of the year, a 47.8 percent decline from the same period in 2025. Of these arrivals, 381,062 were from Vietnam and 9,051 were from Laos.
