CPNS Employee Killed by KKB in Papua Mountains, Served Only Two Months

A tragic incident has occurred in Papua Mountains province, Indonesia, where Willy Mboik (24), a civil servant (CPNS), was shot dead by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) just two months after commencing his duties. Mboik was reportedly ambushed while distributing aid to local residents along with other officials. The news of the tragedy has cast a pall of grief over Mboik's family in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The family is holding joint prayers at the funeral home on Thursday (10/9/2026) while awaiting the arrival of Mboik's body. According to Mboik's relatives, his tenure as a civil servant was exceptionally brief. He passed the civil servant selection test in 2024, the test was administered in 2025, and his decree was issued in 2026. "My younger brother took the civil servant test there, the recruitment was for 2024, the test was held in 2025, and my brother's decree was issued in 2026, so he had only been a CPNS for about two months," a relative told reporters. Relatives stated that Mboik had been stationed in the Jayawijaya region since 2023, working at the Agriculture and Livestock Office located within the Regency Office. He died while on duty with other officials. The relative recounted the chronology of the incident based on circulating information. The incident occurred on Wednesday (9/9) around 3:40 PM local time. Mboik and other officials had departed from the office to distribute piglets to the community. "I was not at the exact location, but the case is still under police investigation. According to the circulating story, at 3:40 PM local time, they were ambushed while in their vehicle," the relative said. Two vehicles carrying officials from the Agriculture and Livestock Office were en route. Both groups of officials worked at the same office, located in the Regency Office. They had left to distribute piglets to the community. There were a total of 11 officials in the two vehicles. Upon being ambushed, the occupants were separated into locals and those from outside the region. Mboik was among the group separated as an outsider. "They were ambushed, and out of the 11 people in the vehicles, they were separated into locals and outsiders, including my brother. After being separated, the shooting occurred," the relative revealed. Mboik's HP Also Missing Following the incident, it was also discovered that some of Mboik's belongings were missing. Among them was Mboik's mobile phone. "My brother's cellphone is missing, possibly taken by the perpetrators. His bag was left at the office when he left," the relative stated. The shooting incident is currently under investigation by local police authorities. Mboik's body is scheduled to arrive in Kupang tomorrow morning and will subsequently be transported to his parents' home in Rote Ndao Regency. "It will arrive at the airport tomorrow morning, then immediately taken to the port to be sent to Rote Ndao," the relative said.
