Cambodia's Commerce Minister Urges New Koh Kong Director to Fulfill Duties Responsibly

Cambodia's Minister of Commerce, Cham Nimul, presided over the inauguration ceremony of the new Director of the Provincial Department of Commerce for Koh Kong province on August 3, 2026. The newly appointed director, Khoeuth, succeeds Salym Farit, who has retired. The ceremony, held at the Koh Kong Provincial Theater, was attended by Thong Narong, Chairman of the Koh Kong Provincial Council, Chea Vaa, Governor of Koh Kong Province, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce, local authorities, and representatives from relevant ministries and agencies in Koh Kong province. During the event, Minister Cham Nimul congratulated the new director and highly commended the efforts and achievements of the retiring director. She also praised the leadership and officials of the Koh Kong Provincial Department of Commerce for their active contributions to the development of the commercial sector at the local level. Notably, the Minister highly valued the contributions of the Koh Kong Provincial Administration in significantly promoting the development of commerce, investment, and tourism. Furthermore, the Minister highlighted Koh Kong province's high potential for development, built upon three key pillars: (1) Natural Tourism, rich in natural resources and outstanding ecosystems; (2) Commerce, Industry, and Logistics, through special economic zones and deep-sea port development projects; and (3) Energy, Agriculture, and Aquaculture, as foundational elements for promoting sustainable economic growth. Additionally, the Minister outlined key achievements of the Ministry of Commerce in implementing the government's 'Pentagonal Strategy Phase I.' These include public administration reform and strengthening governance, promoting domestic trade, reinforcing intellectual property rights and the registration of Geographical Indications (GI) and collective marks to increase the added value and competitiveness of Cambodian products, expanding international markets, integrating trade within regional and global frameworks, modernizing public services, connecting market information, and expanding digital service provision to facilitate business and investment. The ministry also focused on enhancing consumer protection, fair competition, and ensuring product safety. As a leader of the Ministry, Minister Cham Nimul provided key recommendations to the new Director of the Koh Kong Provincial Department of Commerce. These focused on strengthening local market linkages, reinforcing partnerships between producer communities and the private sector, promoting the registration of GI and collective marks to increase the added value of the province's potential products, particularly agricultural and fishery products, enhancing the efficiency of public services, and continuously monitoring market conditions. Before concluding, the Minister encouraged the leadership and officials of the Koh Kong Provincial Department of Commerce to continue fulfilling their roles and responsibilities with a spirit of accountability, professionalism, transparency, and integrity, thereby contributing to the further advancement of commerce, investment, and economic development at the local level, in line with the Ministry of Commerce's mission and the vision of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
