UNICEF Empowers Tens of Thousands of Cambodian Youth with 21st Century Skills and Digital Literacy

Over the past three years, UNICEF has collaborated with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to help tens of thousands of Cambodian children and youth acquire 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, creativity, and digital knowledge. According to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, this assistance has been provided through the support and promotion of the "Life and Living Skills Education (LLSE)" program and the "Volunteer for My Community (VMC)" program. The LLSE program's learning methodology, focused on practical problem-solving, has enabled students to identify various community issues such as climate change, child marriage, online safety, and gender equality, and to generate concrete solutions to address them. The Ministry of Education further stated that as of December 2025, over 4,000 education officials and teachers have received training in implementing the LLSE and VMC programs, subsequently teaching more than 429,000 students in 987 schools across 10 provinces. This represents a significant achievement. Currently, the LLSE program has become a core subject within the national curriculum for grades 4 to 9, while the "Volunteer for My Community (VMC)" program is implemented as an extracurricular activity in secondary educational institutions using a project-based learning approach. These initiatives are contributing to the development of a new generation of human resources who are confident, creative, and active citizens, ready to participate in developing Cambodia's future.
