Vietnam's Culture and Sports Events Shine on International Stage

Vietnam is increasingly making its presence felt on both domestic and international stages, spanning from sports to culture. In the realm of sports, the Vietnamese women's team drew with Thailand and advanced to the quarterfinals at the ASIAN GAMES 2026 (ASIAD 2026). In taekwondo, Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly secured a bronze medal in the women's 68kg category, showcasing a strong performance. Bui Ngoc Nhi defeated Singapore's opponent to win a bronze medal, and in men's taekwondo doubles, Nguyen Hoang Minh Tan and Trinh Gia Nghi overcame their Indian opponents with a straight-sets victory to also claim bronze. Culturally, Ao Dai Fashion Week London 2026 placed Vietnamese traditional dress within the language and professional standards of the international fashion industry. Organizers focused on designers, collections, fabrics, craftsmanship, and creative interpretations, rather than presenting Ao Dai solely as a cultural symbol. This highlights the potential for Vietnam's traditional attire in the global market. The promotion of Vietnamese culture abroad is also advancing. Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations in Japan and Singapore provided opportunities for overseas Vietnamese to preserve traditions, strengthen generational bonds, and share Vietnamese culture with local and international communities. Furthermore, Vietnam was honored as a guest country alongside Japan at the Maintenon/Pierres Japan Festival in France, deepening cultural exchange between the two nations. Domestically, the Thanh Tuyen Festival has evolved from a children's cultural celebration into a signature cultural and tourism product of Tuyen Quang province. Held from September 11-20 under the theme “Heritage Flow,” the festival attracted over 250,000 visitors, featuring artists and troupes from Vietnam, the Republic of Korea, Japan, and India. Resolution 80-NQ/TW, dated January 7, 2026, designated November 24 as Vietnam Culture Day, to be observed annually. This aims to provide opportunities for the public to participate in, create, and enjoy cultural activities, spreading positive values and fostering pride in Vietnamese culture. Moreover, in Ho Chi Minh City, the application of standards in activities by agencies, organizations, and residential communities is deemed crucial for a cultural space to fulfill its purpose. In Hanoi, a campaign connecting air travel with cuisine, music, sports, and urban experiences offers new ways to promote the capital during autumn. Hoi An's lantern making, a traditional craft with over 400 years of history, reflects the charm of Vietnam's cultural heritage through its soft, warm glow. These activities, encompassing both sports and culture, clearly demonstrate Vietnam's commitment to deepening its engagement with the international community and promoting its cultural heritage worldwide.
