Man Arrested for Murder of Woman Lured to Phnom Penh Via Facebook
A man has been arrested in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, for the murder of a woman he met on Facebook. He allegedly lured her to the capital with the promise of a job, only to kill her in a guesthouse. The victim was a newlywed, married for only two months.
Authorities in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, have arrested a suspect in the murder of a woman who was allegedly lured to the capital via Facebook. The Phnom Penh Municipal Police apprehended the suspect, identified as Yang Sangkhai, also known as Akom, a 26-year-old Cambodian male, on July 20th at approximately 4:00 PM. The arrest took place on a dirt road in front of the VTS vehicle storage lot in Kok Chambok village, Chom Chao I commune, Por Sen Chey district. The investigation was initiated following the discovery of the victim's body at the Krusa Guesthouse, room 204, on the first floor, in Tra I village, Sting Mean Chey I commune, Mean Chey district, on July 17th at around 5:20 PM. The Serious and Minor Crimes Police Office of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, in cooperation with the Sithor Kandal District Police of Prey Veng Province, conducted the operation. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having met the victim through Facebook. He admitted to persuading her to come to Phnom Penh for a job, claiming he was unaware that she was newly married, having tied the knot only two months prior on May 3rd, 2026. The Phnom Penh Municipal Police's Minor Crimes Unit is currently questioning the suspect according to legal procedures.
