Village administrator and 12 others including a 19-year-old youth shot dead by PDFs in Thammagyi Village, Myaing Township

It has been reported that 12 people, including a village administrator and a 19-year-old youth, were shot dead by PDFs in Thammagyi Village, Myaing Township, Mandalay Region. It is understood from investigations by relevant officials that approximately 25 PDF members arrived in three cars and motorcycles at Thammagyi Village, Myaing Township, around 6 AM on August 31, and killed the village administrator and other villagers. According to records, those killed were Village Administrator U Soe Lin Htike, People's Security and Anti-Terrorism Force members U Maung Thein, U Chit San Maung, U Bo Thet Lin, U Than Htay Aung, U Wai Yan Soe, U Zaw Khet, Maung Hein Wunna Zaw (son of U Zaw Khet), U Win Naing, U Aung Maung, Daw Khin Mu (wife of U Chit Maung), and Daw Lay Lay Win (wife of U Maung Thein). At the village center of Thammagyi Village, near the Nat Sin shrine, U Soe Lin Htike (44) sustained a penetrating wound to the forehead (1), and a bursting wound to the left temple (1); U Maung Thein sustained a bursting wound to the head (1); U Chit San Maung (44) sustained a bursting wound to the head (1) and a laceration to the left forearm (1); U Bo Thet Lin (40) sustained a penetrating wound to the top of the head (1); U Than Htay Aung (39) sustained a bursting wound to the right side of the head (1); U Wai Yan Soe (32, SMT Serial No. 2/2024, returned after training) sustained a penetrating wound to the right temple (1); U Zaw Khet (45) sustained a bursting wound to the head (1); Maung Hein Wunna Zaw (19, son of U Zaw Khet) sustained a penetrating and tearing wound to the right cheek (1) and a penetrating wound to the left side of the neck (1); Daw Khin Mu (44, wife of U Chit San Maung) sustained a bursting wound to the head (1); U Win Naing (55) sustained bursting wounds to the back and neck (1); and U Aung Maung and Daw Lay Lay Win, among others, died from gunshot wounds. On August 24, in Chauk Township, Monywa District, Sagaing Region, a monk from Shwedar Village, who was arrested and interrogated on suspicion of organizing a People's Militia Force (PLF) under the NUG, passed away from injuries sustained during the interrogation. Following the political changes after 2021, there have been criticisms that acts of liquidation and killing based on accusations of being informants (dalans) were initiated by the CRPH and NUG. PDFs have been carrying out successive assassinations of administrators and civilians on suspicion of being informants, and initially, the CRPH, NUG, and some EAOs remained silent regarding these acts of assassination carried out under the guise of "revolution" and justified as "military targets." Subsequently, personal grudges and mistaken identities led to frequent killings in the assassinations based on informant accusations. After criticisms began to emerge from diplomatic circles and even among anti-government forces regarding the killing of civilians based on informant accusations, the NUG denied having a policy of eliminating informants. Since the political changes in 2021, over 100 monks have passed away due to shootings and assassinations, and two pastors have also died. It is understood that the proportion of monks who passed away due to mutual exchanges of fire and battles is only a small percentage, with over 90% having passed away due to killings by PDFs on various accusations. Similarly, according to Myanmar government statistics from February 1, 2021, to December 26, 2025, a total of 9,908 civilians, monks, children, administrative officials, and government employees have died due to killings by armed groups on various accusations.
