Cambodia to Host Major Forum to Attract Muslim Travelers
Cambodia's Ministry of Tourism will host the 'Cambodia Muslim Friendly Tourism Forum and Fair' in July 2026 to attract travelers from Muslim-majority countries. The initiative aims to diversify the market and foster sustainable tourism development through enhanced Halal services and improved hospitality.
Cambodia's tourism industry is poised to enhance its appeal to Muslim travelers with the upcoming 'Cambodia Muslim Friendly Tourism Forum and Fair 2026,' scheduled from July 10-12, 2026, at the OCIC Convention Center in Phnom Penh's Chroy Changvar district. Organized by the Ministry of Tourism, the event, themed 'The Land of Gentle Hearts and Trusted Home in Travel,' aims to showcase a wide array of tourism services and products tailored for Muslim visitors. The initiative seeks to bolster Cambodia's reputation as a safe, welcoming, and trustworthy destination globally, fostering cultural exchanges and deepening understanding of the needs and trends within the Muslim travel segment, in line with digital advancements. The forum will feature panel discussions with government officials, tourism experts, Muslim community leaders, and business executives, focusing on best practices and recommendations for the sustainable, resilient, and inclusive development of the Kingdom's tourism sector. According to the Global Muslim Travel Index, Muslim travel saw approximately 176 million international trips in 2024, a 25 percent increase from 2023 and a 10 percent rise compared to pre-COVID-19 levels. Thourn Sinan, Chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association Cambodia Chapter (PATACC), believes the forum will be a catalyst for Cambodian tourism stakeholders to prioritize the Muslim tourism market, highlighting significant opportunities to attract visitors from India, Indonesia, and the Middle East. "This fair will serve as a catalyst, encouraging tourism businesses as well as the Cambodian public to further improve their services to better accommodate visitors of all nationalities and religious backgrounds," Sinan stated. While acknowledging that halal dining options in Cambodia are less prevalent than in neighboring countries, Sinan noted the significant efforts by the Ministry of Tourism to promote Muslim-friendly services. During a training program in August 2025, Tourism Minister Huot Hak emphasized Cambodia's strategy to diversify its international tourism market by tapping into the burgeoning Muslim travel segment. He stressed that attracting more Muslim tourists necessitates continuous improvement in service quality, competitive pricing, and the provision of facilities and services that cater to their specific needs, thereby adding value. "Cambodia is seizing opportunities to diversify its tourism markets in order to strengthen and expand the tourism sector’s potential, ensuring sustainable, inclusive and resilient growth by tapping into the Muslim tourism market to complement its existing international markets," Minister Hak concluded.
