Cambodia Considers Veteran Support Projects in Ratanakiri to Improve Housing and Living Conditions

Phnom Penh, August 9, 2026—Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary-General of the Cambodian Veterans and Returnees Association, His Excellency Kun Kim, along with the Ratanakiri Provincial Administration, inspected the houses of veterans and returnees on August 8, 2026. These residences are located on approximately 5,000 hectares of social land concession allocated by the Royal Government for the Cambodian Veterans and Returnees Association in village 3, Trapaing Krom commune, Kon Mom district, Ratanakiri province. His Excellency Kun Kim stated that based on the actual inspection, over the past more than 10 years, many veterans' houses have become dilapidated and damaged, rendering them uninhabitable. He also noted deficiencies in access roads, electricity, and schools. In his capacity as Secretary-General of the Association, he is reviewing this issue and has proposed a project to renovate these houses to ensure that veterans can reside in adequate and improved living conditions. He will request relevant ministries to examine the feasibility of providing assistance according to their respective expertise. Specifically, he aims to identify other veterans in Ratanakiri province who lack land and housing, ensuring they receive accommodation. During the occasion, His Excellency visited veterans and their families in their homes, inquiring about their well-being. He asked for their understanding regarding the existing shortcomings, assuring them that the Cambodian Veterans and Returnees Association will strive to resolve immediate issues in their daily lives in the future. His Excellency Kun Kim added that Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Veterans and Returnees Association, and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Association, consistently provide recommendations to care for the welfare and uplift the living standards of veterans.
