Thailand Expressway Authority Eyes TFF Fund to Finance Kathu-Patong Expressway Project

The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) is considering the establishment of a Thailand Future Fund (TFF) to utilize revenue generated from the Bang Phli-Suksawat expressway. This fund is intended to finance the construction of the Kathu-Patong expressway project in Phuket, which has an estimated cost of 16.7 billion baht. EXAT anticipates that the plan could receive cabinet approval as early as December of this year. If approved, the bidding process for the project is expected to commence in 2027. The Kathu-Patong expressway is expected to contribute to alleviating traffic congestion and boosting tourism in Phuket. Improving access to key tourist destinations like Patong Beach, in particular, is projected to enhance convenience for visitors. The establishment of the TFF is being watched as a new financing mechanism for infrastructure development. The aim is to accelerate the promotion of new projects by reinvesting cash flows from existing revenue-generating infrastructure assets.
