Thai Ruling Party MP Dies of Lung Cancer, Local Political Stalwart

Haran Thulaphon, a Member of Parliament (MP) for Udon Thani's Constituency 3 and a member of the ruling Bhumjaithai Party, passed away at 8:15 AM on July 20, 2024, at Krungthep Udonthani Hospital. He was 69 years old and had been battling lung cancer for several months. His wife, Panyasiri Thulaphon, who serves as the Chairperson of the Chiang Wang Subdistrict Administrative Organization, announced his passing on her personal Facebook page. She shared a photo of him cycling and waving, accompanied by a heartfelt message: "This morning, the MP peacefully left us. We love and mourn him dearly, Haran Thulaphon, our great pillar from home." The post has since garnered numerous likes and condolences. Haran Thulaphon was born on April 1, 1955. A native of Chiang Wang subdistrict, Pen district, Udon Thani province, he had a long career in local politics, serving five terms as the Chairperson of the Chiang Wang Subdistrict Administrative Organization. He first entered national politics in 2007, running for parliament under the Chart Thai Party, but was unsuccessful. He later joined the Thai Sang Thai Party before switching to the Bhumjaithai Party. In the 2023 general election, he successfully contested Udon Thani's Constituency 3, defeating the incumbent from the Pheu Thai Party. His remains have been moved to his family home in Ban Sra Khrai, Chiang Wang subdistrict, Pen district, Udon Thani, where religious ceremonies will be held. Source: INN News
