Mekong, Japanese Foreign Ministers Reaffirm Commitment to Co-creating Partnership

Mekong and Japanese foreign ministers stressed the importance of Mekong-Japan cooperation, alongside ASEAN-led mechanisms, in building a peaceful, stable, resilient, and prosperous Asia-Pacific and Indo-Pacific region. Amid growing uncertainties and emerging cooperation opportunities and challenges, they noted that the mechanism should continue to innovate and adapt to better meet the development demands of Mekong countries and Japan. Vietnam calls for a deeper, more practical ASEAN-Russia strategic partnership. Vietnam also co-chaired the ASEAN-New Zealand Post-Ministerial Conference. Furthermore, at the 59th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM-59), Vietnam proposed three priorities to advance ASEAN-Japan cooperation.
