Gang of robbers arrested after breaking into house and store in Mawlamyine

It has been learned from relevant authorities that suspects have been arrested in connection with an incident where a group of robbers broke into a house and electrical appliance store located on Kan Nar Road, Mayangon Ward, Mawlamyine City. Around 4 AM on the 28th of last month, three men wearing black masks, gloves, and carrying pistols climbed up through the scaffolding of a building under construction adjacent to the top floor of the three-story house, which also serves as the Koko Nyi Nyi Electrical Appliance Store, located on Kan Nar Road, Mayangon Ward, Mawlamyine City. They then broke through the barred door and entered the house. Subsequently, they descended to the lower floor via the internal staircase of the upper floor and tied the hands of the sleeping shop employees, Ma Than Than Sein (17 years old) and Ma Than Than Htwe (19 years old), with yellow tape. They then demanded the key to the lower floor's main door and opened it. Later, they spotted Daw Yin Htay (45 years old), the niece of the homeowner, who was hiding in a room adjacent to the toilet on the top floor. The three masked men kept Daw Yin Htay, Ma Than Than Sein, and Ma Than Than Htwe on the top floor and demanded the key to the room where the safe was kept. When Ma Than Than Sein said she didn't know, they broke into the room where the safe was kept using a crowbar they had brought with them. They then stole a safe measuring 2 feet in length, width, and height, as well as documents and banknotes from wardrobes on the upper and lower floors. According to the homeowners' statements, the stolen items included 40 pieces of 10-tical gold bars, valued at approximately 400 million kyats; one 10-tical (approximately 180 grams) MC-designed gold necklace, valued at approximately 100 million kyats; five 5-tical (approximately 90 grams) gold necklaces of various designs, valued at approximately 250 million kyats; two diamond rings, valued at approximately 300 million kyats; along with a diamond necklace from a wardrobe, valued at approximately 100 million kyats; two diamond bangles, valued at approximately 100 million kyats; five diamond rings, valued at approximately 100 million kyats; two platinum necklaces, valued at approximately 70 million kyats; two gold locket pendants, valued at approximately 100 million kyats; two 1-tical (approximately 18 grams) gold necklaces, valued at approximately 20 million kyats; one 10-tical (approximately 180 grams) gold bangle, valued at approximately 100 million kyats; along with two pledged gold necklaces and two pledged gold bangles, totaling 6 ticals (approximately 108 grams), valued at approximately 60 million kyats; one diamond ring, valued at approximately 50 million kyats; and mixed banknotes totaling approximately 50 million kyats. The total estimated value of the stolen items was approximately 508.5 million kyats, according to police. Through their investigation, the relevant police force arrested the main suspect, Daw San Aye, a resident of Zeyar Myine Ward, Mawlamyine City, who works as a real estate agent, on the day of the incident. The arrest was made by Police Captain Aung Min Kyi and his team from the Mawlamyine District Anti-Corruption Police Force. Based on her confession, accomplices who committed the crime together were also arrested with evidence, according to a source close to the police force. The source further stated, "According to Daw San Aye's confession, it is understood that those who participated in the robbery, namely E Tun Che, Saw Tin Ye Aung, Saw Pho Kyaw, Min Htet Thar, and Min Ko, were also arrested in cooperation with the local police force." Regarding this incident, a case has been opened and is being prosecuted at the Sekkon Township Police Station under Case Number 2/2026, (P) 110/2026, in accordance with Section 392 of the Penal Code.
