Roy Suryo: Jokowi 'Fell Himself' Over Diploma Row

Roy Suryo, the defendant in the case of alleged fake diploma of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), stated that Jokowi himself worsened the polemic by not showing the document to the public from the beginning. This statement was made by Roy when answering a question from Lechumanan, Deputy Chairman of DPN Peradi Bersatu, who is the reporting witness in the case. Lechumanan previously questioned the reason why Jokowi was said to have to be "brought down as low as possible." In the indictment hearing, the prosecutor stated that due to Roy's actions, Jokowi suffered intangible losses, namely the tarnishing of his personal reputation, feeling insulted and demeaned to the lowest possible level. "There is nothing wrong, he is the one who brought himself down," Roy Suryo answered in the Head to Head CNN Indonesia program titled "Sidang Ijazah Bergulir, Kapan Jokowi Hadir?" on Wednesday (23/9). "He brought himself down. If from the beginning Jokowi had shown his diploma 'oh' to the public, there would be no need, no need to imitate Barack Obama, just imitate Arsul Sani. Roy's statement was made despite the fact that in a special investigation briefing on the alleged fake diploma case on December 15, 2025, the Polda Metro Jaya stated that Jokowi's diploma had been shown to Roy Suryo and related parties. The police stated that the diploma was issued by the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and had been seized from Jokowi as the reporter. However, Roy at that time still doubted the authenticity of the diploma shown by the investigator. He claimed the diploma was fake. "Yes, it's fake! Where did they show it?" said Roy. Roy then discussed the condition of the photo in the diploma that was shown. "Where is there a photo of someone over 40 years old, it's very clear like a photo that was just printed yesterday using a printer," said Roy. The case of the alleged fake diploma belonging to Jokowi is still ongoing at the East Jakarta District Court (PN Jakarta Timur). Roy Suryo himself will continue the trial today, Thursday (24/9). The follow-up trial was held after Roy rejected an offer to resolve the case through restorative justice in the first trial, Thursday (17/9). Meanwhile, dr Tifa on Thursday (17/9), underwent an exception hearing to convey objections to the prosecutor's indictment. Dr Tifa is charged with defamation, violations related to electronic information, and tarnishing Jokowi's personal reputation in connection with the fake diploma allegations.
