AI Summary

Philippine mobile wallet giant GCash anticipates further growth in its wealth management portfolio, driven by investor interest in its parent company Mynt Inc.'s upcoming IPO. The company is focusing on improving access to investments and enhancing financial literacy.

Mobile wallet GCash is expecting its wealth management portfolio to grow further amid investors’ interest in its parent company, Mynt Inc.’s initial public offering (IPO). At a media roundtable in Makati City on Monday evening, GCash Commercial Head of Wealth Management Darvin Sy Su told reporters that the fintech’s wealth management portfolio —GStocks, GFunds, GBonds— has over 25 million accounts to date. With Mynt’s IPO scheduled next month, Sy Su said that the fintech firm is seeing the number of wealth management accounts growing to as much as “capturing 40 to 41 million active users [of GCash]” out of the mobile wallet’s 94 million registered users. “Imagine that we can move the market just because they place their P1,000 or P500 pesos in stocks… that’s our goal,” he said. Under the latest timetable, the GCash IPO (initial public offering) will be offered from October 6 to 12, with Mynt scheduled to list on the Philippine Stock Exchange on October 20 under the stock symbol “GCASH.” Mynt set the pricing date on October 1, 2026, followed by the notice of the final offer price to the PSE and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on October 2, 2026. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) earlier said it has “considered favorably” the IPO of Mynt, noting that it is the first company to “take advantage of the Commission’s lower public float requirements for large issuers.” Last week, the Philippine Stock Exchange approved the application of Mynt for the listing of its common shares on the exchange’s Main Board. “By improving digital access to investing, an area that was once traditionally reserved for the privileged few, we are helping create pathways for more Filipinos to build a more secure financial future,” Winsley Bangit, Group Head of New Businesses at Mynt, said in a separate news release. With mobile trading and online investing becoming a mainstay, GCash is placing greater focus on financial literacy. Aside from improving access to market research and beginner-friendly guidance within GStocks PH, the fintech giant also launched its AI-powered Pera Coach to provide on-demand access to educational tips and investment information. “Beyond making access to investing more convenient, we’re doubling down on our financial literacy efforts to help Filipinos better understand and use the tools we provide,” said Bangit. —AOL, GMA News
