Thai Binh University Appoints Dr. Pham Quoc Thanh as New President
Thai Binh University has appointed Dr. Pham Quoc Thanh, a former professor from Vietnam National University Hanoi, as its new president. Since his appointment, he has driven reforms in university governance, improved educational quality, enhanced research, and expanded international cooperation, leading to over a 30% annual increase in student enrollment since 2024.
Thai Binh University in northern Vietnam officially announced on July 20 the appointment of Dr. Pham Quoc Thanh as its new president. Dr. Thanh, formerly the Head of the Political Science Department at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities under Vietnam National University Hanoi, had been serving as the acting president of Thai Binh University since July 2023. Dr. Thanh is recognized as a reputable scientist within Vietnam National University Hanoi, possessing extensive experience in university management, education, scientific research, and international cooperation. He has published over 100 scientific articles domestically and internationally and has led or participated as a key member in 20 national, ministerial, provincial, and university-level research projects. He has also supervised 12 doctoral candidates and dozens of master's students to successful thesis defenses. Since 2023, Dr. Thanh, along with the university's leadership and staff, has been dedicated to reforming university governance, streamlining administrative processes, enhancing educational quality, prioritizing scientific research, boosting student enrollment, developing a qualified faculty including those with doctoral degrees and professorial titles, expanding domestic and international partnerships, and improving facilities. These efforts have resulted in a significant increase in student enrollment, with the university seeing over a 30% rise annually since 2024. In addition to its core faculty, the university regularly invites esteemed professors from leading universities in Vietnam and abroad to teach and deliver scientific lectures to students. At the end of June, the provincial People's Committee of Hung Yen province transferred a multi-purpose building with over 9,100 square meters of floor space, located in the central area of the former Thai Binh city, to the university for its use. This new facility, in addition to the existing 4-hectare campus, underscores Hung Yen province's special attention to the development of education and training, particularly higher education.
