MindaNews writer Allizah Keziah Manulat has been named valedictorian and summa cum laude for the University of the Philippines Mindanao's Class of 2026. She will graduate with a degree in BA Communication and Media Arts, receiving multiple academic awards.
DAVAO CITY — MindaNews writer Allizah Keziah M. Manulat has been recognized as the valedictorian and summa cum laude of the University of the Philippines Mindanao's (UP Mindanao) Class of 2026. She achieved a general weighted average of 1.111 and will graduate with a degree in BA Communication and Media Arts. Manulat will be among the 273 graduates at the 28th commencement exercises, scheduled for July 7 at the UP Mindanao atrium in the university’s Mintal campus. In addition to her valedictorian honor, she will receive the Chancellor’s Award for Academic Excellence, the Dean’s Special Award for Academic Excellence, and an award for Best Thesis in Production Research. Her undergraduate thesis focused on developing a child-focused pop-up book about child marriage in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), drawing insights from women-friendly space facilitators. Furthermore, a children's book authored by Manulat, titled “Si Ina, Si Bituin, at Ako,” is currently undergoing a publication contract process. She first joined MindaNews as an intern in 2025 and subsequently became a writer and marketing contact while completing her degree. Her content, which blends Gen-Z friendly approaches with credible journalism, has contributed to MindaNews gaining viral traction across platforms. The university will confer degrees upon 159 students from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 92 from the College of Sciences and Mathematics, and 23 from the School of Management.
