Vietnam Celebrates 81st National Day Amid Economic Growth Push

Vietnam celebrated its 81st National Day on September 2, with commemorative events held across the country. In Hanoi, historical landmarks such as Ba Dinh Square, where the Declaration of Independence was read, and 48 Hang Ngang Street, where President Ho Chi Minh drafted the declaration, saw significant visitor numbers. The economic growth momentum is evident, with the total import-export turnover at the Lao Cai International Border Gate reaching nearly $1.6 billion USD as of August 26, a 75% year-on-year increase. Exports surged by 162%, demonstrating Vietnam's dynamic economic transformation after 40 years of reform. Provinces like Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh are implementing comprehensive measures to achieve double-digit economic growth in 2026, laying a foundation for future development. In Phu Dinh commune, Thai Nguyen province, tea production is thriving through modern farming techniques and VietGAP standards, contributing to local economic revitalization. Culturally, a new handicraft art space in Hanoi is blending traditional crafts with contemporary ideas, engaging younger generations. Innovative approaches like virtual reality are also being used to bring Vietnam's history closer to new generations, fostering national pride and a sense of responsibility. On the international front, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Plus Summit in Kyrgyzstan, discussing measures to advance bilateral relations with the Kyrgyz President. Vietnamese diplomatic missions and communities in Singapore and Thailand also held ceremonies to pay tribute to President Ho Chi Minh. In Thailand, a Vietnamese-language public speaking contest was organized to mark the 81st anniversary of Vietnam's National Day and the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Thailand diplomatic ties, highlighting cultural exchange.
