Deputy Police Chief Major General Zaw Zaw Aung and Police Officer Attacked and Killed in Hakha City

AYEYARWADDY TIMES (Hakha), July 18 Deputy Police Chief Major General Zaw Zaw Aung and his bodyguard police officer were shot and killed in Hakha City, Chin State, according to local residents. It is reported that CDF Hakha opened fire on them around 7 AM on July 17, as they were leaving the Hakha City Police Station by motorcycle. "Two officers were leaving the police station. CDF fighters were waiting on Gant Gaw Road in Pyu Thaw Doe Ward and shot them at close range. Both died on the spot," a Hakha resident told the Ayeyarwaddy Times. It is reported that after the shooting, CDF Hakha seized one pistol and mobile phones from the police officers. The bodies of the deceased were collected by the military and its subordinate forces and transported to Hakha People's Hospital. "Yesterday, military vehicles and motorcycles were active in Hakha city. Soldiers and police were deployed at all intersections and junctions, with tight security," a Hakha resident told the Ayeyarwaddy Times. Despite tight security and investigations currently underway, the shooters have not yet been apprehended. CDF Hakha issued a statement on July 7, urging residents of Hakha City and surrounding villages to refrain from going out at night due to the security situation.
