Defamation Trial Over President Jokowi's Diploma Begins

The East Jakarta District Court (PN Jaktim) has scheduled the first trial for Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Dokter Tifa, who is a suspect in a case of alleged defamation and slander related to President Joko Widodo's diploma, for today, Thursday (2/7). The trial is set to take place at 09:00 AM Western Indonesian Time in the Main Courtroom of the East Jakarta District Court. The case, numbered 301/Pid.B/2026/PN JKT. TIM, will be presided over by Chief Judge Christina Endarwati. Fellow judges include Rudi Rafli Siregar as Member Judge I and Mathilda Chrystina Katarina as Member Judge II. The East Jakarta District Court has prohibited visitors from live streaming or broadcasting during the trial proceedings. "Visitors sitting in the visitor's seats will not be permitted to conduct live coverage," stated PN Jaktim spokesperson Immanuel to reporters on Wednesday (1/7). Meanwhile, Immanuel confirmed that media personnel are allowed to conduct live streaming throughout the trial. However, he added that when the trial enters the witness examination agenda, media personnel will not be permitted to broadcast live. "Throughout the trial for the reading of the indictment, exceptions, or defenses if any, up to the interlocutory decision, as well as for the trial of the reading of charges, pleas, up to the final verdict, the East Jakarta District Court has permitted media personnel to conduct live coverage," he explained. "However, in the evidence stage later, the East Jakarta Court's decision states that live broadcasting is not permitted because, by law, the testimonies of witnesses should not be heard by each other," he added. Furthermore, Immanuel mentioned that his team will also implement crowd control and screening from early morning. This is due to limited seating capacity, allowing only interested parties to enter.
