Vietnam, RoK Promote Cooperation, Youth’s Role in Science and Technology

Vietnam and South Korea have agreed to strengthen cooperation in science and technology, emphasizing the role of youth in innovation and the development of an innovation ecosystem. Le Thi Viet Lam, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation under the Ministry of Science and Technology, stated that Vietnam wishes to continue building an ecosystem that connects the State, research institutes, universities, and businesses, enabling them to share resources and create value. She expressed Vietnam's interest in learning from Korean experience in this area. The two countries are shifting towards strategic high-tech and innovation partnerships. This indicates a move beyond mere technology transfer towards more advanced collaboration through joint research and development and human resource training. Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh called for greater contributions from Vietnam's innovation network and experts in cooperation with South Korea. This reflects Vietnam's emphasis on utilizing its domestic scientific and technological talent and deepening international collaboration. Under Vietnam's one-party system, the development of science and technology is considered key to the nation's economic growth and enhancement of international competitiveness. Strengthening cooperation with South Korea is expected to foster an innovation culture and nurture young talent, in addition to introducing advanced technologies. In its relations with China, Vietnam seeks to reduce economic dependence while maintaining geopolitical balance. Deepening cooperation with developed countries in the science and technology sector is seen as a way to enhance Vietnam's strategic autonomy through economic diversification and technological advancement.
