Vietnam and Cambodia Agree to Boost Economic Connectivity

On the afternoon of July 28, at the Government headquarters, Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung held a meeting with the President of the Cambodian National Assembly, Samdech Khuon Sudary, who is on an official visit to Vietnam. During the meeting, both sides agreed to further strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries. Specifically, they confirmed policies to deepen the ties between the two economies through promoting infrastructure development and facilitating trade. This meeting demonstrates the commitment of Vietnam and Cambodia to contribute to economic integration and stability in the Mekong region. In recent years, while Vietnam has prioritized its economic relationship with China, it has also sought to strengthen cooperation within ASEAN. The agreement with Cambodia is seen as part of this broader strategy. Under its one-party system, Vietnam prioritizes economic growth, and strong economic relations with neighboring countries are essential for stabilizing supply chains and improving the investment environment. Both countries are expected to focus on developing logistics networks and promoting cross-border trade, leveraging their advantageous geographical proximity. This is anticipated to boost the economic vitality of the entire region. Vietnam, while also engaging with China's "Belt and Road" initiative, aims to build its own economic sphere, and cooperation with Cambodia will contribute to strengthening this foundation.
