In Aunglan Township, Magway Region, the main crop, green beans, are yielding well but prices are falling, according to farmers. While green bean yields were around 10 tins per acre in previous years, this year's yield has increased to about 15 tins per acre, and the quality is also good. Last year, green beans sold for about 120,000 kyats per tin, but this year they are only fetching 70,000 kyats, causing difficulties for farmers, said Ko Phan Lone, a farmer from Panmata village in Aunglan Township. The cost of cultivating one acre of green beans is around 1 million kyats, and this year, labor costs have also increased due to a shortage of workers. According to wholesale dealers, a bag of 20 viss of dried, high-quality green beans is priced at 70,000 kyats, while a bag of 20 viss of moist green beans is priced at 60,000 kyats.
