Pagadian City Enhances Campus Security Amidst Fake Online Threat

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – The Department of Education (DepEd) Pagadian City Division has ordered a permanent tightening of campus security across the locality following an alleged online threat against local schools. Dr. Danny Cordova, DepEd Pagadian City Schools Division Superintendent, confirmed that on Wednesday evening, he received a report regarding a threat posted online targeting local schools. However, subsequent investigations revealed that the threat was fake. Despite the threat being fake, Dr. Cordova emphasized that revalidating school safety measures and ensuring the safety of students and personnel are top priorities. The division has instructed school officials to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately. This incident highlights the significant impact of online threats and misinformation, which have been on the rise in the Philippines in recent years, on educational institutions. The proliferation of social media has accelerated information dissemination, but it has also made it easier for false or malicious information to spread. In response to such situations, education authorities are also considering strengthening information literacy education for students and personnel.
