Two suspects arrested after DEMU train was pelted with stones near Paung Township

The No. 83 up DEMU train running from Yangon to Mawlamyine, which departed from Yangon Central Station at 5 AM today, September 22, was pelted with stones near Bantwe Kone village in Paung Township, and two suspicious men have been arrested by the relevant authorities, it has been learned. According to a source close to the security forces, the Yangon-Mawlamyine No. 83 up DEMU train was pelted with stones near the paddy field of U Htin Lin in Bantwe Kone village, beyond Chaunggyi Station, while it was continuing its journey from Paung Station to Mawlamyine Central Station at 10 AM. The source further stated, "As soon as we learned that the train had been pelted with stones, we stopped the train and drove it back to the scene of the incident. Then, the railway police went and arrested one suspicious man found in the paddy field." It is reported that the person arrested near the scene of the incident was Kyaw Lin Htun, aged 45, who was tending to goats, and that Maung Naing (alias) Jappu, who was fishing in the paddy field with him, was also arrested by the railway police and members of the Mottama District Police Station. The source added that the relevant authorities are still investigating the extent of any damage to the DEMU train that was pelted with stones. It is reported that Kyaw Lin Htun and Maung Naing (alias) Jappu are currently being held and interrogated at the Mottama District Police Station.
