Cambodia Boosts Rural Economy with Infrastructure Expansion: Road Construction Begins in Stung Sen

Infrastructure development aimed at improving the livelihoods and stimulating the economy of local communities is progressing in Stung Sen district, Kampong Thom province, Cambodia. On August 6, 2026, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Chna Lo village for the construction of a red gravel road exceeding 4 kilometers in length, funded by the village's commune fund at a total cost of 359,300,000 Riel (approximately $130,000 USD). Say Kimlom, the District Governor of Stung Sen, emphasized that this road construction is a tangible implementation of the national development strategy by Prime Minister Hun Manet of the Kingdom of Cambodia, particularly in infrastructure development in rural areas. The Prime Minister has stated a policy that a dense network of roads will further promote the development of the national economy. Furthermore, Governor Kimlom expressed his gratitude to H.E. Thao Chesda, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology and Head of the Working Group for Stung Sen District, and H.E. Chan Sinat, Head of the Working Group for Chna Lo Commune. Their diligent efforts have led to the development of over 10 kilometers of concrete roads and new irrigation systems. These systems connect the 30 September Dam through Preah Damrei, Rong Roeung, Chna Lo, and Chna Krom communes, ensuring more secure irrigation for rice fields. Governor Kimlom urged residents living along the soon-to-be-constructed road, as well as the general public, to diligently maintain the achievements provided by the government and the working group. Specifically, he called for avoiding encroachment on road and canal reserves to ensure reliable irrigation and the longevity of the infrastructure, thereby benefiting future generations. This infrastructure investment is positioned as part of a series of initiatives by the Cambodian government to boost the rural economy and enhance the quality of life for its citizens.
