Phnom Penh: Cargo Ship Employee Seriously Injured After Falling From Crane

In Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, a cargo ship employee sustained severe injuries after falling from a piece of heavy machinery. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM on August 6th, at the Teuk Srun dry port, located on Vimean Chhunchay Road, in Choeung Chov 3 village, Po Sen Chey district. The victim has been identified as Nuon Nimal, a 29-year-old male, originally from Koh Koul village, Koh Tumeum commune, Kampong Siem district, Kampong Cham province. He reportedly suffered a fracture to his left leg. According to reports, the incident took place as the victim was attempting to jump down from a lifting crane (elevator) used for transporting goods, after his work shift had ended. He reportedly slipped, fell into the machinery's roller, and became trapped, resulting in a severe fracture of his left leg. Following the accident, colleagues requested an ambulance. Rescue teams from the 711 unit, 70th Infantry Division, arrived at the scene and transported Nimal to the hospital. This incident highlights the critical importance of safety protocols in port operations, particularly concerning actions taken at heights or near heavy equipment, which can lead to severe consequences.
