Pailin Province Authorities Intervene to Save 530 Hectares of Drought-Stricken Rice Fields

On July 25, 2026, Pailin Provincial Governor Ms. Ban Sreymom led relevant technical officials and work teams to inspect the restoration of irrigation canals and the installation of water pumps to intervene and rescue 530 hectares of rice fields belonging to citizens in Sala Krau Commune, Sala Krau District, Pailin Province, which are facing water shortages during the rainy season. Governor Ban Sreymom urged relevant technical officials, especially the Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology and local authorities, to pay close attention to studying and understanding the local conditions, assessing the actual capabilities of all water sources, in order to intervene by pumping or channeling water into the fields to rescue the rice crops of the citizens that are facing water shortages, without allowing them to be damaged due to a lack of effort on our part to assist them to the best of our abilities. The provincial governor stated that Prime Minister Samdech Mahabaworapadei Hun Manet of the Kingdom of Cambodia always pays close attention to the challenges, requests, and difficulties of the people in the local areas and resolves them in a timely manner, regardless of any situation. She specifically mentioned that Samdech Techo, the President of the Senate, has always advised and urged relevant institutions and authorities at all levels to pay constant attention to intervening and resolving issues for the citizens in a timely manner. On this occasion, Ms. Ban Sreymom also appealed to the farmers to cooperate with technical officials and local authorities to ensure that the efforts to rescue rice through canal restoration, pumping, or channeling water into the fields are carried out smoothly, in a timely manner, with equity, and transparency, which contributes to improving the livelihoods of the people through the agricultural sector. According to Mr. Nga Lihong, Director of the Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology, citizens in Pailin Province have cultivated a total of 8,585 hectares of rice during the rainy season this year, 2026. Under the close guidance and attention of H.E. Thao Cheath, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, and H.E. Dr. Ban Sreymom, Governor of Pailin Province, the Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology has intervened to restore irrigation canals and install water pumps to save 530 hectares of citizens' rice fields in Sala Krau Commune, Sala Krau District, Pailin Province, during the rainy season.
