Philippines Telco Investments to Exceed $2 Billion Amid Digital Push
Major telecommunications players in the Philippines are projected to invest over $2 billion in 2026, signaling a strong commitment to the country's digital transformation. These investments are expected to enhance infrastructure, improve connectivity, and create jobs, bolstering the digital economy.
MANILA, Philippines — Investments by major telecommunications players in the Philippines are projected to exceed $2 billion by 2026, signaling a significant ramp-up in the country's digital transformation efforts. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) reported that the combined announced capital investments from PLDT Inc., Globe Telecom Inc., and Converge ICT Solutions Inc. have already reached approximately $2.21 billion as of August. With the anticipated investments from Dito Telecommunity Corp., the total industry capital expenditures for 2026 could reach around $2.45 billion. DICT Secretary Henry Aguda stated, "Crossing the $2 billion mark sends a clear message: the telecommunications industry believes in the Philippines. These investments will translate into more infrastructure, better connectivity, new jobs, and greater opportunities for Filipinos as we continue building a digital-first economy." Given the vital role of the telco sector in supporting economic growth, innovation, digital government, education, healthcare, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, cloud services, and data center development, Aguda noted that the investments reflect growing confidence in the Philippines and its digital future. The DICT also highlighted that these investments coincide with the country's accelerated implementation of the Konektadong Pinoy Act and the expansion of the National Fiber Backbone, advancing the administration's goal of making digital services more accessible, affordable, and inclusive nationwide. "We thank our telecommunications partners for continuing to invest in the Filipino people and in the nation’s future," Aguda added. "While each company competes in the marketplace, they are united in helping connect communities, grow the economy, create quality jobs, and strengthen the foundations of a more digitally empowered Philippines."
