Luzon Braces for Heavy Rains as Habagat Intensifies

MANILA, Philippines — Several areas in Luzon may still experience heavy rains on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 5, due to the continued effects of the southwest monsoon, or habagat, the state weather bureau said. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that between 15 millimeters (mm) and 30 mm of rain may prevail over areas in Bataan and Zambales under an orange rainfall alert. The weather bureau warned that floods during severe weather in the affected areas may be threatening. Meanwhile, a yellow warning was also issued over Metro Manila and many other areas in Luzon. A yellow warning means between 7.5 mm and 15 mm of rainfall may pour within the next few hours. PAGASA also reported that Quezon and places in Laguna may expect light to moderate with occasional rain showers within the next three hours. The weather bureau also said that the following areas are experiencing similar conditions, which may go on within the next three hours.
