Can Tho City Commences School Upgrades for New Academic Year

Can Tho City, located in Vietnam's Mekong Delta, has taken a significant step towards strengthening its educational infrastructure in preparation for the new academic year. On September 4th, the city held a groundbreaking ceremony for the "Investment in Education and Training Infrastructure" project. This initiative, with a total budget exceeding 61 billion Vietnamese Dong (approximately over $2.4 million USD), aims to renovate, construct new buildings, and upgrade teaching equipment for five schools, primarily in the My Xuyen district. The schools slated for upgrades include Hoa Hong Kindergarten, Thanh Quoi 3 Primary School, the Pedagogical Practice School, Thanh Phu 3 Primary School, and Ngoc Tho Secondary School. The project is scheduled to be implemented from September 2026 to November 2027. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, emphasized the project's practical significance in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning. He also noted that in the context of administrative realignments, investing in educational infrastructure in areas like My Xuyen, Hoa Tu, Gia Hoa, Nhu Gia, and Ngoc Tho demonstrates the city's firm commitment to ensuring continuity in educational development and public welfare. He urged the construction units to adhere strictly to safety, quality, and the committed timeline. Under Vietnam's one-party system, investment in education is considered a crucial element for nurturing the future workforce and maintaining social stability. Particularly in developing regions like the Mekong Delta, infrastructure development serves as a foundation for economic growth. This project can be seen as part of the country's broader development strategy. Furthermore, amidst complex relations with China, strengthening domestic social infrastructure is also deemed important for enhancing national self-reliance.
