President's Thailand visit contributes to ASEAN re-engagement

Dr. Khine Khine Soe, the spokesperson for the State Administration Council, stated that President Min Aung Hlaing's visit to Thailand will greatly contribute to Myanmar's normal re-engagement with ASEAN and the building of the ASEAN Community. The Myanmar delegation led by President Min Aung Hlaing officially visited Thailand on the morning of August 6 and returned on the evening of August 7. Dr. Khine Khine Soe stated that this visit demonstrated an intention to promote constructive engagement and cooperation with ASEAN member states, and further visits to ASEAN member states are planned. It was also stated that the visit provides an opportunity for regional countries to better understand and build mutual trust regarding the current situation in Myanmar, and that Thailand will fully support Myanmar's normal re-engagement with ASEAN. During the visit to Thailand, the President held discussions with the Prime Minister of Thailand, and a meeting between Myanmar and Thailand was also held. Furthermore, he met with the interim Speaker of the Senate of Thailand and attended the Myanmar-Thailand Economic Forum. It is reported that during the visit, frank discussions were held on matters to further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Myanmar and Thailand, as well as on cooperation in economic, cultural, and various other sectors between the governments and peoples of the two countries.
