Senate Approves 5-Year Term for Barangay, SK Officials

The Philippine Senate has approved on its third reading a bill that extends the term of barangay (village) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK, youth council) officials from the current three years to five years. The bill, Senate Bill No. 2387, was passed with 13 senators voting in favor and five senators voting against it. Senators who voted against the bill included Senate President Pro Tempore Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, and Senators Risa Hontiveros, Bam Aquino, and Kiko Pangilinan.
