Cambodian Health Minister Meets Japanese Parliamentary Delegation, Confirms Deepening Healthcare Cooperation
Cambodia's Health Minister met with a Japanese parliamentary delegation, expressing gratitude for Japan's ODA in improving healthcare infrastructure and training personnel. Further cooperation was sought in areas like upgrading regional hospitals and developing digital health systems.
On September 14, 2026, at the Ministry of Health, H.E. Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, received a delegation from the Japanese Senate led by H.E. Toshiharu Furukawa, along with representatives from the Japanese Embassy and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). During the meeting, H.E. Professor Chheang Ra expressed his profound gratitude to the Japanese government and people for their active participation in constructing and modernizing Cambodia's healthcare infrastructure, including national and provincial hospitals, through Official Development Assistance (ODA). He also praised the technical cooperation in developing the capacity of healthcare personnel and in providing continuous training, which effectively addresses the pillars of the Health Strategic Plan (HSP4 2025-2034). Furthermore, Cambodia requested Japan's continued support in reducing the disparity in healthcare services, transforming regional hospitals into advanced treatment centers, and developing a digital health system to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030. The Ministry of Health reiterated its commitment to implementing all Japanese ODA with high transparency and efficiency. It was noted that Japan's ODA has strengthened Cambodia-Japan healthcare cooperation, contributing to the development of the healthcare system and human resource training to achieve UHC.
