Hanoi Establishes 4 Interdisciplinary Teams to Inspect School Lunch Programs

Hanoi, Vietnam's capital, has decided to establish four interdisciplinary inspection teams to strengthen the system for providing school lunches (bán trú) at educational institutions across the city for the 2026-2027 academic year. Vu Thu Ha, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, issued Decision No. 5066/QĐ-UBND on September 17. Based on this decision, joint inspections will be conducted on the implementation of lunch provision at each school. The measure aims to ensure a safe food environment for children and students and provide them with nutritionally balanced meals. In recent years, school food poisoning incidents have been observed in various parts of Vietnam. In response, Hanoi has decided to establish a more rigorous oversight system. Key inspection areas are expected to include compliance with food safety standards, quality control of ingredients, and maintenance of sanitary conditions. As Vietnam's economy grows, the number of dual-income households is increasing, particularly in urban areas. School lunch programs play a crucial role for many families. However, concerns about food safety are also rising. Hanoi's initiative is a significant step towards addressing these social issues and enhancing parental peace of mind.
