Vietnam's Deputy PM Visits Laos to Deepen Bilateral Ties

Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister was welcomed by Dr. Kheugkham Keonouchanh, Deputy Minister and Deputy Head of the Prime Minister’s Office, along with relevant officials and representatives from Laos and Vietnam. The visit is being made at the invitation of Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Lao PDR. The visit aims to further strengthen the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic partnership between Laos and Vietnam, while promoting deeper and more effective bilateral cooperation in the years ahead. This high-level engagement underscores Laos's continued emphasis on its robust relationship with Vietnam, a cornerstone of its foreign policy. As a one-party socialist state, Laos maintains deep historical and political ties with Vietnam, which often translates into significant cooperation in areas such as economic assistance and infrastructure development. The meeting between the deputy prime ministers is expected to reinforce this long-standing alliance and bolster bilateral cooperation across various sectors. While Laos also maintains close ties with China, its relationship with Vietnam is crucial for maintaining geopolitical balance. Laos has also been active on the international stage, recently concluding its tenure as President of the Third Review Conference of the Convention on Cluster Munitions.
