Philippines Gov't Awards P348M Cloud Deal to Boost E-Govt Platforms

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has awarded a P348.5-million contract to software developer Novare Technologies, Inc. for cloud hosting services supporting the government’s e-government digital platforms. The project involves the establishment of secure enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure through Amazon Web Services to bolster the DICT’s centralized digital platforms. This initiative is expected to enhance the government's digital service delivery capabilities and accelerate the e-government agenda, aiming to improve citizen access to services. The Philippines has seen a surge in digital transformation investments, with online administrative services being crucial for both citizen convenience and administrative efficiency. Separately, the agency issued a notice to proceed to Comclark Network and Technology Corp. for the P30.58-million operations and maintenance contract covering phases two and three of the National Fiber Backbone. Last month, DICT also awarded Sungil Philippines Corp. a P69.1-million contract for the maintenance of the first phase of the fiber backbone network, which spans 1,245 kilometers from Ilocos Norte to Quezon City. These infrastructure and digital platform investments are vital steps in the Philippines' transition to a digital economy. Improved digital infrastructure, especially in rural areas, can help bridge economic disparities and create new business opportunities. Japanese companies, particularly in the BPO sector, benefit from the Philippines' digitalization, and further infrastructure development could impact bilateral economic ties.
