Chinese Cultural Association, Insurance Giant Pledge Support for Cambodia's Tourism
A Chinese cultural association and insurance giant Ping An have pledged to cooperate in promoting Cambodia's tourism sector, focusing on cultural exchange and enhancing tourist safety.
China’s Association for the Promotion of Cultural and Artistic Development, a national organisation dedicated to advancing cultural development, international cultural exchanges and cooperation with partner countries, has pledged to work with Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism to promote cultural exchanges and joint tourism promotion between the two countries. The commitment came alongside a similar pledge from Ping An, China’s largest insurance company, which also agreed to strengthen support tourist safety through insurance services. The commitments were made during separate meetings between tourism minister Huot Hak and senior Chinese officials, as the minister accompanies Prime Minister Hun Manet on an official visit to China. During talks with Yang Xiaoyang, president of the Chinese cultural association, Hak highlighted Cambodia’s tourism potential and recent developments in the sector. He outlined the government’s efforts to eradicate online scam operations, explained Cambodia’s visa exemption policy for Chinese nationals and reaffirmed the long-standing friendship between Cambodia and China, including the two countries’ “all-weather Cambodia-China community with a shared future in the new era”. Both sides agreed to expand cooperation through reciprocal art exhibitions, collaboration in cultural heritage preservation, the promotion of film, video and digital cultural industries, arts education and human resource development, as well as greater integration of cultural and tourism initiatives. The Chinese association will prepare a detailed cooperation proposal and arrange a visit by a delegation which will explore opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation and promoting cultural and tourism exchanges. To ensure the initiatives are implemented effectively, both sides agreed to appoint focal points to coordinate detailed planning and discuss future cooperation projects. In a separate July 15 meeting, Shi Hequn, an executive of Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Company of China, expressed his support for Cambodia’s visa exemption policy for Chinese citizens and explained that the company was interested in working with the tourism ministry to provide high-quality insurance services for Chinese and other international visitors travelling to Cambodia. The two sides agreed to develop specific investment plans for tourist safety systems, with a particular emphasis on enhancing Cambodia-China insurance arrangements for Chinese and international visitors. Ping An also agreed to study the feasibility of investing in exclusive luxury tour programmes aimed at increasing confidence among high-net-worth Chinese tourists and investors interested in visiting Cambodia and exploring investment opportunities in the Kingdom. As with the cultural cooperation initiative, both parties appointed focal points to oversee implementation and prepare for further feasibility studies in Cambodia.
