Cambodia Enhances Diplomatic Capabilities for International Stage

On the afternoon of July 31, 2026, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, presided over the closing ceremony of a capacity-building seminar for senior diplomats, organized by the National Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations. The event was attended by 121 senior diplomats (from the Head of Department level upwards) and 45 Cambodian representatives abroad participating via video conference. H.E. Deputy Prime Minister congratulated the participants on successfully completing the course and highly commended the National Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations for its efforts in organizing this training, which aligns with the core strategy of building and developing the capacity of diplomats before their deployment abroad. He emphasized the importance of enhancing work efficiency through comprehensive and thorough diplomatic professional training and encouraged diplomats to participate more actively in the Institute's training framework. Furthermore, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister provided key recommendations to all participants on enhancing and strengthening the effectiveness of Cambodia's diplomatic work on the international stage, particularly in the context of global security and economic instability. He highlighted six strategic priorities for Cambodian diplomacy: (1) continuing to strengthen existing bilateral relations and expanding ties with new partners; (2) continuing to support and contribute to strengthening multilateralism; (3) building the ASEAN Community; (4) promoting economic and cultural diplomacy; (5) implementing public diplomacy; and (6) enhancing the quality, efficiency, and capacity of Cambodian diplomats. He shared practical diplomatic experiences on leadership, effective management of representative offices, and the implementation of flexible, agile, and proactive diplomatic strategies to comprehensively strengthen cooperation. He stressed the importance of doubling efforts in protecting Cambodian citizens abroad and defending Cambodia's interests on the international stage, urging officials to perform their duties with professionalism, determination, dynamism, and unwavering loyalty to the Cambodian nation and people.
