Prabowo Proposes Special Academy for Regional Leaders and Ministry Officials

President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia has revealed plans to establish a special academy for regional leaders and director-generals within ministries. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance human resource development, aiming to elevate the quality of government leadership. "We are considering establishing an Academy for Governors, an Academy for Regents, and so on, possibly under URI. And perhaps an Academy for Director-Generals as well. They must undergo rigorous training before assuming their positions," Prabowo stated. The academy is designed to equip future leaders with essential skills in leadership, administration, and a deep understanding of their responsibilities. The President emphasized that the selection process for strategic government positions should increasingly prioritize capability, integrity, and readiness. He believes that pre-appointment education is crucial for officials to fully grasp their duties and align their work with government policies. Acknowledging existing challenges such as human resource quality and inter-institutional coordination gaps, Prabowo views the establishment of URI, the modernization of the National Institute of Public Administration (LAN), and the proposed academy as integral components of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the system and cultivate professional talent. "We must improve all our institutions. If there are inconsistencies or gaps between agencies, that is our challenge, and we must fix it," he asserted. He stressed that improvements require not only structural changes but also a focus on enhancing the quality of individuals within these institutions. Through URI, the government intends to identify and nurture top graduates from various universities, preparing them to fill leadership and administrative roles in the government.
