Cambodian PM Dispatches Minister to Resolve Water Shortage Issues Following Citizen Appeal

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has instructed Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, to investigate and resolve water shortages in Phnom Penh following direct appeals from affected residents. Residents of Stung Meanchey 2 commune in Meanchey district have been experiencing intermittent water shortages during the day and took to Facebook to directly petition the Prime Minister. Eng Heang, a representative of the residents, stated that their appeals to the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority for years have gone unresolved. In response to the citizens' plea, Prime Minister Hun Manet acted swiftly. "I have assigned Mr. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, to examine and help resolve the issue for our citizens," the Prime Minister announced on Facebook. Meanchey district authorities confirmed that on the morning of July 22, 2026, the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration, led by Deputy Governor Chhay Virak, along with officials from the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority, began investigating and addressing the problem. Authorities acknowledged that while water is available during the day, the pressure is low.
