Yangon, July 10 Authorities in Malaysia's Johor state, through an operation called Operasi, conducted surprise checks on markets and shops, leading to the arrest of a total of 186 illegal foreign workers, including 64 Myanmar nationals, according to a statement from the Johor State Immigration Department. The arrests were carried out over two consecutive days in the Batu Pahat district and Johor Bahru city within Johor state. Around 3:00 PM on July 8, officers from the Batu Pahat Immigration branch conducted surprise checks on 7 shops and buildings where illegal foreign nationals were reportedly working. Among those arrested were 31 foreigners aged between 21 and 48 who were residing and working without valid visas or identification documents. The 31 arrested individuals included 19 Myanmar nationals (16 males, 3 females), 10 Indonesian nationals, and 2 Bangladeshi nationals. Currently, all arrested individuals have been sent to the Pekan Nanas Immigration Detention Centre to face legal action for offenses such as illegal entry, residence, and employment in Malaysia without permission. Around 10:00 AM on July 7, officers from the Johor State Immigration Department and the Defence Agency (AKPS) jointly conducted a raid around Pandan Market in Johor Bahru city. This operation was conducted after authorities had secretly monitored and investigated for several months based on reports of foreigners violating laws within the market. Among those arrested, a targeted inspection of shops run by foreigners within the market led to the apprehension of 155 illegal foreign nationals aged between 10 and 49 who lacked identification. Among those arrested were 45 Myanmar nationals (39 males, 5 females, 1 child), 62 Indonesian nationals, 35 Bangladeshi nationals, 10 Pakistani nationals, 2 Vietnamese nationals, 1 Chinese national, and 2 Malaysian nationals suspected of hiring illegal foreign workers, who were further arrested and detained by the authorities. Currently, all 155 arrested individuals have been sent to the Setia Tropika Immigration Detention Centre for further investigation and legal action for violations of immigration laws (working without permits, failure to present travel documents).
