Vietnam Receives Over 900,000 Entries in Party Ideological Foundation Protection Contest

Vietnam announced that the 6th "Contest for Political Essays on Protecting the Party's Ideological Foundation" received a record-breaking 905,681 entries. This initiative is a key part of the one-party state's efforts to maintain its ideological dominance and societal stability. On September 9th, the Central Organizing Committee for the 6th contest convened in Hanoi for the preliminary judging and to prepare for the central award ceremony. The contest aims to counter ideological influences and reinforce the Party's leading role. Previous iterations of the contest have seen thousands to tens of thousands of entries, with participation from Party members, citizens, and students. For the 5th contest (scheduled for 2025), over 2,400 entries advanced to the preliminary stage. The surge in entries for the 6th contest suggests either heightened public interest in ideological protection or significant mobilization by the Party. While Vietnam's economy has experienced remarkable growth, societal diversification and increasing digitalization present ideological challenges.
