An Giang Province Encourages DNA Collection for Fallen Soldiers' Remains

In Vietnam's southwestern An Giang Province, efforts are underway to collect DNA samples from the remains of fallen soldiers. On July 31st, a delegation from the Provincial Steering Committee 515 (responsible for the gratitude and repatriation program for martyrs' families) visited the Tri Ton Martyrs' Cemetery in Tri Ton District to encourage the officers, staff, and forces engaged in DNA sampling. This activity is part of a national 'gratitude' initiative aimed at expediting the identification of unidentified remains and facilitating their handover to families. An Giang Province is committed to accelerating the progress of this DNA collection process. In previous operations, a total of 111 sets of remains collected from Kep, Kampot, and Kampong Speu provinces in Cambodia were repatriated to Vietnam and are interred in the region. Identifying these remains is considered a crucial national responsibility. The Central Public Security Party Committee has also expressed its support for the gratitude program in An Giang Province. This reflects a continuous effort by the state to honor the sacrifices and recognize the contributions of fallen soldiers. This initiative is a key policy for the Vietnamese government, under its one-party system, to foster national unity and social stability. By sharing the memory of war and showing respect for those who sacrificed, the program aims to cultivate patriotism and strengthen social solidarity among the populace. Alongside economic development, the focus on such historical and social programs highlights the multifaceted nature of Vietnam's governance.
