Jokowi to Attend Court Hearings on Forged Degree Allegations

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has stated his intention to attend court hearings related to allegations of a forged degree and defamation concerning him, provided he is summoned by the prosecutor. Rivai Kusumanegara, President Jokowi's lawyer, confirmed this in an interview with CNN Indonesia, stating, "As a citizen and a complainant, if summoned by the prosecutor, we will definitely attend. I guarantee this 1000 percent." The legal proceedings stem from claims made by former Minister of Culture and Tourism, Roy Suryo, and Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as dr. Tifa, who alleged that President Jokowi's degree from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is fake. The prosecutor has charged Roy Suryo with damaging President Jokowi's honor. Meanwhile, dr. Tifa faces charges including violations of electronic information laws and defamation in connection with the forged degree allegations. According to his lawyer, President Jokowi believes it is necessary for him to personally explain the allegations regarding his academic qualifications and the defamation he has suffered in court. The President's legal team aims to clarify the truth behind the allegations and the impact on his dignity through his direct testimony. Roy Suryo has rejected an offer for restorative justice during the initial hearing, indicating his intention to contest the case in court. Dr. Tifa, on the other hand, has undergone a hearing to present her objections to the prosecutor's indictment.
