Cambodia: Two Arrested in Teenage Murder Case, Accomplices Sought

Cambodian police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old boy in Samaki Mean Chey district, Kampong Chhnang province. This marks a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the brutal incident that occurred in the early hours of September 6, 2026. The incident took place around 12:45 AM on that day in Sre Pouch village, where the victim, Muni Promdanuth, 17, was attacked and fatally stabbed multiple times by a group of six suspects riding two motorcycles. The crime, which occurred in a seemingly peaceful village, has sent shockwaves through the community. Following the incident, under the command of National Police Chief General Sar Theth and direct leadership of Director of the Criminal Police Department Major General Neng Chu, the specialized forces of the Criminal Police Department collaborated with the police departments of Kampong Chhnang, Battambang, and Mondulkiri provinces to launch an intensive investigation. The investigative team, led by officers including Colonel Hun Munyrat, Colonel Hem Bona, and Colonel Chan Kimly, worked tirelessly to identify the suspects and locate their hiding places. As a result of their diligent efforts, the authorities successfully cracked the case and apprehended two suspects sequentially. The first, Ngeon Chan Eim, 19, was arrested on September 15, 2026, at 4:50 PM in Tuol Khpos village, Phnum Preuk commune, Phnum Preuk district, Battambang province. The second, Ran Sophi, 19, was apprehended on September 22, 2026, at 1:50 PM in Pou Tang village, Pou Chrey commune, Peth Da district, Mondulkiri province. Currently, the two arrested suspects are undergoing interrogation at the Criminal Police Department, and legal proceedings are underway.
